LENTEN SEASON: A Time of Healing

Today, as a sister undergoes a medical procedure in the operating room, I find myself in a quiet corner, browsing through messages and homilies of our Holy Father, Pope Francis. It was then that I came across his words from the Angelus on March 30:

“Dearest friends, let us live this Lent as a time of healing, all the more as it is the Jubilee. I too am experiencing it this way, in my soul and in my body. That is why I give heartfelt thanks to all those who, in the image of the Saviour, are instruments of healing for their neighbour with their word and their knowledge, with kindness and with prayer. Frailty and illness are experiences we all have in common; all the more, however, we are brothers in the salvation Christ has given us.”

To live this Lent as a time of healing… These words struck me deeply, resonating with what we are living in our own journey. Our Province has been marked by the challenges of illness and suffering among our Sisters. We have witnessed the frailty of the human body, yet at the same time, we have also seen the strength of faith, the power of prayer, and the love that binds us together as one.

Lent calls us to purification, to renewal, and to a deeper trust in God’s providence. As we accompany our Sisters in their suffering, we are also called to be instruments of healing—through our presence, our prayers, and our acts of kindness. May this season of grace strengthen us in faith, hope, and charity, reminding us that even in weakness, Christ’s saving love sustains us all.
