PASQUETTA

I was an Aspirant when I first heard the word “Pasquetta “. This is the day when the community do the annual outing, either in the beach, in the farm or any other places outside the four walls of the convent where the Sisters can delight in nature, the countryside and enjoy the presence of each one not doing the usual schedule of the day.
PASQUETTA which is also called as “Lunedì dell’Angeli” is an Italian term which means the day after Easter or Easter Monday.
For the Italians it is a established tradition, introduced by the government after the Second World War to allow the citizens to celebrate, it is considered as a big feast, a holiday, that all Schools, Government and private offices and businesses are closed. On this particular day families goes out to the parks and beaches for picnics and as a family gathering for most.
For a couple of years as a missionary in Rome I usually go to the Vatican to take photos on the beautiful flowers decorated for Easter Sunday celebration from the Netherlands. For more than 30 years now the Dutch flower specialists have been responsible for the floral decoration in St Peter’s Square.
