SCALA SANTA or Holy Stairs

All year long especially during Lenten season pilgrims in Rome also flocked at SCALA SANTA or HOLY STAIRS doing the tradition to climb up the stairs on the knees. So, one day during the Holy Week in order to pray the ascend solemnly i went early in the morning to avoid chaos.

I am lucky to live and work within the vicinity, and every time somebody asked for prayer of intercession for a special intentions, I do the visit and climb on my knees keeping in mind what the tradition says: that these 28 steps are the very same steps where our Lord Jesus ascended in Pontius Pilate’s palace in Jerusalem. These was brought to Rome by St. Helena, the mother of the Emperor Constantine in the 4th century.
