The COLUMN of Flagellation which is believed to be the pillar to which Christ was tied and scourged before the crucifixion can be found at the Basilica of Santa Prassede. It was said that this was given to Constantinople by the Papal Legate Giovanni Colonna, theTitular Cardinal of Santa Prassede in 1223. The Basilica is nearby the Basilica of Sta. Maria Maggiore at Via Merulana in Rome.
