PONTE DI LEGNO

Still “ON” with the hospitality of my dear friend Tess, we trekked the mountain of PONTE DI LEGNO to Passo Paradiso. She reminded me to buy a good trekking shoes before I left Rome. But then religious as I am I got no budget to buy an expensive mountain shoes. Anyways, I have my old rubber shoes which I’m using everyday in my walk going to work.

So, the journey begun…we travelled for an hour by car to reach Ponte di Legno from Esine. Passing by the plains, the green valleys and the mountains with the wild flowers along the road was already heaven for me. More so, my eyes was feasting when we entered the Comune or the municipality of Ponte di Legno… which is called Pònt in their Camunian dialect. This is a town with 1,773 inhabitants, the uppermost comune of Valle Camonica that belongs to the Province of Brescia in Lombardy.

Ponte di Legno has been a destination for ski pioneers since the beginning of the 20th century and is now the famous tourism centre in Alta Vallecamonica and one of the oldest ski stations in Italy. Its position is splendid on a sunny plateau at 1260 m above sea level. Albeit t’was summertime, we’re still lucky we saw some part of the mountain covered with snow and my longing to go up and walk through it were answered in just a couple of minutes after we took a ride in a modern built cable car system that brought us up to Passo Paradiso (2,585 m).

We stayed for a couple of hours contemplating the beauty of God’s creation. I was like a child playing with the snow climbing up the slopes to go up high..  I just felt so energized walking around and looking at the joys and contentment on others faces….reflecting my own happiness. I felt I touched and embraced the clouds around me and so I resound the canticle of Daniel which says:

Cold and chill, bless the Lord
. Frost and chill, bless the Lord
Ice and Snow, bless the Lord. Mountains and hills, bless the Lord
. Everything growing from the earth, bless the Lord
. Praise and exalt Him above all forever.

We walked around the comune of Ponte di Legno and visited the Parish Church of the Holy Trinity which was dated back the year 1685 although the wooden door was only built on the year 1929, and we found also some works of Ramus inside the church.
Thank you LORD for this blessing.
